Convert HEIC to JPG on iPhone

To convert HEIC to JPG on iPhone, open FileSnap, choose your photos, pick Convert Images, select the Compatible preset (JPEG) and tap Convert. The converted files can be saved to Photos or Files, or shared. The Convert Images tool is free and the conversion happens on your iPhone.

Free: Convert Images is a free tool, for batches of up to 10 files. FileSnap Pro (weekly or yearly subscription) raises the batch to 100 files.

Why HEIC photos sometimes need converting

Apple's iPhone camera can save photos as HEIF files (High Efficiency Image File Format). Apple says HEIF and HEVC compress better than JPEG and H.264, so they use less storage. The catch is compatibility: some websites, forms and older software expect a JPEG.

Apple's own setting changes what the camera saves from now on: in Settings, Camera, Formats, choosing Most Compatible makes new photos and videos use JPEG or H.264. It does not change photos you already took, which is where a converter helps.

Convert HEIC to JPG with FileSnap

  1. Open FileSnap and tap Choose files, then Photos (or Files if the photos are saved there).
  2. Select the HEIC photos. You can add up to 10 at once with the free version.
  3. Pick Convert Images from the tools offered for your files.
  4. Under Presets, tap Compatible (JPEG, opens everywhere). The default quality is 85%.
  5. Check the Metadata option. Keep leaves location and camera details in the file, Remove location or Remove all strips them.
  6. Tap Convert, then choose Save to Photos, Save to Files or Share.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?
JPEG is a lossy format, so a conversion re-encodes the picture. FileSnap uses 85% quality for the Compatible preset and has a quality slider if you want more or less.
Are my photos uploaded to convert them?
No. FileSnap processes your files on the device. Only sentences you type in the optional What do you want to do? bar are sent, without your files.
Is this free?
Yes for Convert Images, in batches of up to 10 files. Pro is only needed for the larger batches of 100 files and the Pro tools.
Will the JPG keep the location of the photo?
With the Compatible preset the metadata is kept. Switch the Metadata option to Remove location or Remove all if you do not want to share it.
